Artist's Profile
Kay is a multi media artist who has for over four decades been painting, drawing and sculpturing in clay. Kay is an intuitive artist, inspired by cultural experiences, nature and her environment. To Kay being an artist is a continuous learning experience. Kay has undertaken a number of formal educational programs including classes at Monash University in Melbourne, Invelocky House Art School in Wellington and serval workshops in Singapore and Toronto. She studied papier mache techniques in Florence.

During the late 80s through to the mid 90s Kay was a member of the prestigious Wellington cooperative, Clay Shapes. In 1997 Kay moved to France giving her the opportunity to paint fulltime for a full year. During this period her work reflected the village life of the South of France. Five years living in Singapore, travelling throughout the region gave Kay the inspiration and opportunity to become immersed in ceramics again. She began working at the studio of the renowned Singaporean Ceramicist, Mr Boom. This lead to her sculptures along with the work of other Singaporean ceramic artists being exhibited in a number of Chinese cities. Kays work was selected for an Academic Outstanding Award in the Zhongshan Invited Contemporary Ceramic Art Exhibition 2008.

Back living in Melbourne (2009) Kay was in residence at Gas Works in South Melbourne. During this period in Melbourne the opportunity arose to live in Hanoi for six months where Kay took to painting the local people going about their daily lives. Late 2011 Kay was back in New Zealand where she has set up her own studios on her olive grove in Martinborough. In 2014 she was awarded the NZ Potters Cantaclay Merit Award for Non-functional Pottery.

Kay continues to enjoy working in her studios in Martinborough.

This site started out as an effort to provide ceramic artists in Christchurch, New Zealand with an outlet for their work after the devastating earthquake that essentially destroyed the business district, and much of urban Christchurch in 2010. After suffering the loss of their physical outlets in the earthquakes some of these studio artists formed the Cracked Pots Society and launched this website which gives the public a chance to again see and buy their work.

Since that time ceramic artists have found new ways to display and sell their work. In 2015 NZ Potters took over the site and offerred it as a free service to members in New Zealand.

ceramicsonline.co.nz has now been handed over to Lawrence Ewing who hopes to further develop the site and offer it to all potters and ceramic artists in New Zealand.
